😢 Vidaai (Bride’s Farewell)
The emotional core of most Hindu (and many other South Asian) weddings. Bride leaves her parental home — rice thrown back over the shoulder in many traditions, parents crying, siblings pretending they’re fine, photographers capturing every tear.
- Plan a quiet holding room after — couple needs 10 mins off-camera
- Car decoration + safe driver (emotions = distracted driving risk)
- Confirm who rides with the bride
- Muslim equivalent energy: Rukhsati
- Sikh / Punjabi: Doli
🚪 Griha Pravesh
Bride’s first entry into the groom’s house. Often involves kicking a rice kalash / pot, touching feet of elders, aarti, and sometimes a small havan.
- Home should be cleaned & prepped before they arrive (obvious but people forget)
- Keep ritual items ready: rice, diya, flowers, sweets
- If apartment/society: check entry timing & elevator bookings for the baraat leftovers 😅
🎊 Reception
Often a separate event — sometimes the next day, sometimes a week later, sometimes in another city for the other side of the family. This is the big “party” one for many couples.
- Stage couple entrance (smoke, lights, reels content 📱)
- Different outfit from ceremony (see multi-day outfit planner in Tools)
- Catering for a wider / more mixed guest list
- Speeches, cake, first dance, open floor
- Muslim families: Walima carries religious significance as a feast
📿 Other Post-Wedding Rituals
Varies wildly by community — ask your elders so you don’t accidentally skip something important:
- Satrangi and related multi-day customs in some communities
- Phera return visits / reciprocal hosting in some regions
- Pag Phera — bride returns to parental home shortly after (common in North India)
- Name change / social announcements (optional, personal choice)
- Thank-you gifts / notes for key relatives & vendors
⚖ After the party ends…
Unromantic but critical:
- Confirm legal marriage registration is filed / certificate collected
- Settle final vendor payments & get invoices
- Backup all photos/videos to 2 places (cloud + drive)
- Return rented jewellery & outfits on time (late fees are evil)
